Our industrial portfolio is broad, with projects including a precision measurement instrument for Renishaw, robotic arm covers for Metris, an AR camera for Ncam Technologies, a studio sports highlighting system for Quantel, a hardness tester for Foundrax, and a liquids analyser for Specac. Wider industrial clients have included DuPont and De La Rue. Does IDC develop electronics and software for industrial products as well as physical design? Yes: we have in-house hardware and software engineering teams, enabling fully integrated development of products that combine mechanical design with custom electronics and embedded software - particularly relevant for industrial instruments, IoT-connected equipment, and smart factory devices. How does IDC approach ergonomics and usability in industrial product design? Ergonomics and ease of use are built into our design process from the earliest stages. Industrial and engineering teams work together to ensure products are robust enough for demanding environments while remaining intuitive and safe to operate, informed by contextual user research and observation. Our R&D and Patents service helps clients identify and avoid existing competitor IP, and secure new patents for innovative industrial products. Does IDC have experience with laboratory and scientific instrument design? Yes - our lab and scientific portfolio includes spectrometers, centrifuges, HPCE analytical instruments, a cryogenic environmental chamber, and equipment ranging up to a 25-tonne laboratory press. We have access to an in-house production service for products requiring skilled hand assembly. How does IDC manage the transition from design to manufacture? IDC's Deliver stage covers the full handover from finalised design to commercial production. Our team works with global manufacturing partners to transfer design knowledge into production processes and quality procedures, and coordinates with test houses to achieve the necessary standards approvals before launch.
