Strand Light Dimming Rack

Reducing costs through
manufacturing knowledge

Using its knowledge of suppliers and manufacturers in the East, IDC was able to keep costs to a minimum while maintaining the highest quality standards when developing this light dimming rack.

IDC worked with Strand to develop new light dimming racks, using its manufacturing expertise and supplier contacts to support manufacturing and keep costs down. IDC Models provided rapid prototypes and set up test rigs to test the design throughout the development process.

Strand's lighting rack was designed to be modular and provide a practical ergonomic layout. IDC evaluated various concepts by testing a selection of forced air-cooling systems and connector technologies.

A working test rig was built including the “plug in” dimmer control modules. IDC then went on to design the overall housing for dimmer modules, taking into account the essential electrical connector details.

A fully working prototype was produced using a combination of traditional and rapid prototyping technologies including SLAs and vacuum castings. The main housing was produced in sheet metal with machined, fabricated and aluminium cast details.

Using its manufacturing expertise and supplier contacts, IDC was able to assist in sourcing and selecting the best suppliers and manufacturers for optimum quality and cost.
