IDC is delighted to announce that Julian Swan has been appointed as Engineering Director.

Julian brings over 20 years’ experience of design engineering to IDC, gained at other leading design consultancies. Having previously managed large commercial and technically biased medical projects, his skills will be well matched to further develop our already strong reputation for award winning medical products.

Julian is a chartered engineer, with a BEng in Aeronautical Engineering and an MSc in Computer Aided Mechanical Engineering. Building on this over the years, he has developed an in-depth knowledge of CAD and stress analysis of engineering structures, with expertise in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).

Our customers will benefit from Julian’s input to exciting new engineering service offerings, with a greater element of structural analysis and CAD. With many years experience managing teams and representing industry on the Education Training Committee for the Institution of Engineering Designers, Julian will also work on IDC’s talent development programme to help support graduate training.

Julian is also an active participant in the usability professionals association UXPA, and strives to develop products which are functionally robust and focused on the end user.

Julian commented: “This is a very exciting time of expansion and development for IDC and I am really pleased to have been given the opportunity to join the team. I am looking forward to strengthening the engineering capability and facilitating the development of IDC’s service offering in other disciplines, such as user experience and usability, to further underpin IDC’s rich heritage in delivering world class design to production.”
