Improved ergonomics for an
enhanced user experience

Visio is the result of a complete ophthalmoscope head development project in collaboration with Invotech Excel, offering optometrists an updated visual design, better usability and integration of new features.

Insight and concept to production-ready design

We worked alongside Invotech Excel to develop and launch a new and improved ophthalmoscope product that would resonate with the needs of professional users. The brief was to design a high quality and cost effective ophthalmoscope head that would integrate new optic functions.

Part of the challenge was also to identify other opportunities for improvement with the product, including ergonomics and user experience as a whole. The design was taken through all phases from initial ideas and prototyping to detailed engineering and pre-production sample reviews.

One of the key challenges with Visio was blending form with such intricate function while simultaneously improving usability - particularly with the technical constraints brought on by the improved optic system created by our engineering team. Refining the feel in terms of access and appropriate resistance of the main dial required close collaboration between design and engineering and we're very proud of the result.

Refined engineering for improved usability and product experience

The central dial went through a rigorous process of testing and development to refine how it behaves. The final dial geometry in combination with a small ball plunger resulted in a smooth interaction that achieved a great balance of physical precision, accurate display of increments and ease of use.
