Using design to add value

B&Q
Cylinder lawnmower

ICD understands that a design can change value perception of a product. That is why we firmly believe that aesthetically pleasing and ergonomic design is key in redesigning a product.

B&Q commissioned IDC to redesign an existing, mid-priced rotary mower and give it a contemporary look. The brief stated that the new design should cost no more to produce than the unit already in existence. IDC achieved this by working closely with the Chinese manufacturers, coming up with a conceptual design. We developed this new design from sketches through computer modelling, to a full size foam model and surface model data for the toolmaker. By providing good quality design for a lower cost IDC was able to lower production costs and increase value for B&Q.

The redesigned Lawn Mower reached the stores at the right time, at the right price and has had continued success into the following seasons.
