IDC brings a new look B&Q mower
B&Q
Cylinder lawnmower
Brief: To re-design an existing mid priced rotary mower giving a contemporary new look that is individual to the client. The new design had to use the existing motor, cutting mechanism and control features, with the external appearance and detail totally re-worked. The overall size envelope will remain the same as the number of components had to remain the same. The new design should not cost any more to produce than the unit it replaced.
Process: IDC developed the new design from sketches through computer modelling, to a full size foam model for the client to appraise. The form was further developed and surface model data was supplied to the chosen toolmaker, together with a detailed designer pack.
Achievement: The new design reached the stores at the right time, at the right price and has had continued success into the following season. The success of the mower has led to similar developments to related products.
