B&Q do their own BBQ for the UK

B&Q
‘Bondi’ range of BBQ‘s

Brief: To design and develop a new range of entry to mid range BBQ’s that would enable B&Q to establish a large percentage of the UK BBQ market place. In being sold as an ‘own brand’ product, the design should look to establish a distinctive ‘design language’ that could be attributed to future project developments.

Process: Working closely with the B&Q buying team and the selected Chinese manufacturers, IDC were able to circumnavigate normal ‘design and development’ processes to create a visually strong, ergonomic and cost effective design in a short time scale. This was achieved by using a mixture of hand generated sketches, CAD renderings and explanatory notes.

Achievement: Together with developing a product range that far exceeded initial sale volume targets, IDC create the ‘Bondi’ brand which was expanded to encompass a wide selection of B&Q Garden and Leisure products. The project also proved successful in establishing the IDC method of working with Chinese manufacturers on ‘Quick fire’ projects for European clients.
