IDC Designs Low Volume Spectrometer


Award-winning product design specialist, Industrial Design Consultancy Ltd (IDC), has supported Specac in the design of a special portable spectrometer called Prospect XL 3000 that uses the company’s innovative new infra-red spectroscopy technology for use in process plants. With low volume production in mind, IDC was tasked with the rapid development of a new product that harnessed all the advantages of Specac’s new technology, without the weighty costs associated with injection moulding tooling.

Revolutionary Heart Monitor

A technology venture that has spent £8m developing a revolutionary heart monitor is preparing for launch as the NHS shake-up reaches doctors’ surgeries. The C.Net5000, created by the software business Cardionetics, is a portable, fist-sized device that identifies abnormal heart rhythms linked to strokes and cardiac diseases. Patients simply strap on the battery-powered equipment and the results of a 24-hour observation are displayed on a built in screen.

IDC client gets onto the Big Idea Show

With the assistance of IDC, client Jason Rowles presented his Keyfreeze product on the Big Idea programme, which will be broadcasted on Sunday 29th October 2006 at 9pm on Sky One. His product is an innovative way to stop drink driving, by locking the drivers car key into a pocket sized case. To remove the key, the case needs to be placed into a freezer for a few hours to activate the release system.

Innovative ‘mother and baby’ design

"HIGH demand is expected for a new British-made cot that for the first time allows mother and baby to sleep safely within touching distance alongside each other. The BedNest is the handiwork of grandmother Cilla Labouchere, who was spurred into designing the cot after research from the childhood charity Right From The Start suggested aggression in later life could be reduced by infants having immediate contact with their mothers during the night.
